Argentina boasts the largest operating telecom providers in Latin America. Despite the country's economical decline telecom sector manages to gain considerable profit and take a significant part of market under its control. Due to specific characteristics of local companies it's cheaper to own a mobile phone than a fixed one, that's why the prevailing part of population prefers having cellular phones. The recent years have seen an increase in phone usage among teenagers under 14. This fact is much criticized by the citizens.

The first player in Argentina's mobile phone market was ENTel, a company owned by the state. It subdued all the private companies in the sphere and was a sole service provider, leading to a gradual decrease in the quality of services. In 1990s, having a desire to restrict the monopoly, the government sold the organization. Since it has been led by two companies, one of Spain, another of France having subsidiary names of Telefonica and Telecom Argentina respectively. The companies divide the territory of the country, with Telecom being a service provider in the north, and Telefonica being a service provider in the south.

These largest Argentina telecom brands also own ADSL services, being the main ISPs. Telecom subsidiary is called Arnet, and Telefonica's branch is named Speedy. There's also an ISP called Flash which implements Telecom's facilities in its business. Fibertel, an ISP offering cablemodem services, has its clients only in few cities, while the rest tend to use Arnet and Speedy. Connection speed ranges from 640 Kbit to 6 Mbit for download and 512 Kbit for upload rates. None of the companies tries to increase the speed as a remedy to gain the larger part of the market. The players rather prefer to decrease the price, thus attracting the consumers. However, the number of Speedy and Flash clients diminishes gradually due to Arnet's growing reputation. The majority of population uses broadband connection, preferring it to dial-up as a speedier way to surf the Internet. One of the newly provided services is VoIP though it's not as popular as mobile service for the present moment.

Television in Argentina is represented by cable and digital technologies. Recently, local subsidiary of Philips made HDTV available. The most known national networks are Canal 13 and Telefe. The main TV-service provider is Cablevision, which is owned by Grupo Clarin.
